Director, Lewis H. Walker Cystic Fibrosis Center
The Lewis H. Walker Cystic Fibrosis Center of Akron Children’s Hospital is searching for a Center Director. The Lewis H. Walker Cystic Fibrosis Center is recognized nationally as a leader in the improvement of clinical care systems for managing children and adults with CF. Accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for Care, Education and Research, the Center has well developed Pediatric and Adult Programs. The Center is a Therapeutics Development Network (TDN) site with an active research program that includes a nurse coordinator and data analyst. Both adult and pediatric programs are supported by strong and experienced nursing leadership. The Center provides care for over 80 adults and over 240 children with CF and is committed to developing innovative models for managing a large population of Amish patients with cultural sensitivity.
The candidate we seek will be board certified in Pediatric or Adult Pulmonary medicine and have a minimum of 5 years of experience. Individuals with other credentials and demonstrated competence in CF care may also be considered. Experience as a principle investigator in research studies involving cystic fibrosis patients and training and experience in quality improvement are preferred. Akron Children’s Hospital has an affiliation with Northeast Ohio Medical University where appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Pediatrics is expected.
The Center Director will have the following responsibilities:
Oversee the clinical functions of the CF Center
•He/she will ensure that the CF Center has the required staff, clinical space and funding for both
outpatient and inpatient care. Collaborate with the adult or pediatric program director and associate director to ensure excellent care for all patients.
•Registry data completion
•Responsible for the completion and submission of the Care Center grant to the CF Foundation
•Conduct Center meetings on a routine basis
•Oversee the CF Center retreat annually
•Ensure that the CF Center will meet the requirements of CF Foundation accreditation
Will direct or co-direct the CF Therapeutics Development Network site
•Oversight of all CF Research Protocols through the TDN
•Oversight of the entry of study metrics into CCSM
•Annual TDN Grant submission
•Participate in the EQUIPP QI Initiative – using QI principles to improve CF Clinical Research processes
Will support the Center’s involvement in and directly participate in the Center’s CF Quality Improvement efforts.
Will work with IS/IT staff to develop the EMR (EPIC) to improve the management of our CF patients individually and collectively
